Absolute Biokovo Challenge

Environmental

sustainability of the race

Every activity we carry out has a certain impact on nature. Our goal is to completely minimize the negative impact that the organization of the race can have on nature, and that from year to year everything
we reduce that influence more successfully. We want to achieve our ultimate goal of an environmentally neutral and sustainable race through the following activities:

Transport

– Organized transport during the event, so that as few individual vehicles as possible are used.

– In the organization of the race, the use of environmentally friendly vehicles (hybrids or electric vehicles).
– Advise, appeal and help participants to organize arrivals to the race together if possible by car, van or even bus.
– Appeal to participants to find accommodation as close as possible to the race.

Use of biodegradable materials

– Trail markers are made of biodegradable and reusable materials.
– Starter packs in cardboard bags.
– Biodegradable cutlery and other biodegradable food packaging.
– Biodegradable garbage bags.

Choosing reusable products

– Tags have reflective parts that are not biodegradable but can be used for about 5 years. Likewise, some of the markings will be on metal wire, which has a virtually unlimited number of uses. Plasticized arrows used for marking can last at least 4-5 years.
– Advertising materials (banners, beach flags, etc.) can be used for many years.

Recycling

– There will be bins for waste separation at the finish line.
– All material that can be recycled (cans, glass or plastic packaging) will be recycled.
– Bio waste will be composted.

Pre-recycling
(choosing products with as little packaging as possible, which generate as little waste as possible)

– For all possible products
will be purchased without packaging.
– Large packages will be bought, yes
waste packaging is reduced.
– Choose products that are
produced from recycled materials.
– All contestants must have
own glass during and after the race.

Using local products

– When buying products or using services, it will be seen that they are of a local character (meaning the region or Croatia).

Cooperation with partners who care about the environmental aspect

– When choosing partners, collaborators, companies, sponsors, their attitude towards the environment and sustainability will be taken into account.
– We will make sure that as many products as possible have the Bio or Eco label (less use of pesticides and other chemicals in production).

Education of the participants

– Through all available communication channels, emphasize the importance of preserving the environment both during the race itself (not leaving trash on the track, separating waste…) and in everyday life.
– Avoiding the use of products of animal origin.
